History of Set Free Christian Fellowship Elma
Set Free Christian Fellowship of Elma was started in 1992 by Pastor Kenny Rice. His inspiration was the Set Free Church founded by Phillip Russell Aguilar in Anaheim, California. Phil was an outlaw biker who landed in prison. While he was there, God came to him and gave him a vision, from which Set Free Church was birthed. Countless men had been helped by the Set Free Church in Anaheim, and Pastor Kenny was used that model to start the Set Free Christian Fellowship of Elma.
When Pastor Kenny moved to Georgia in 2005 to start another ministry, he turned Set Free Elma over to a board of members. Pastor Michael Tallman was voted president of the board, and eventually the board instated him as the head of Set Free Elma. Under Pastor Mike Tallman’s leadership, Set Free Elma still maintains its DNA in the biker heritage of the Set Free Church. However, the Holy Spirit has not led Pastor Mike down the same paths. Most of the men at Set Free Elma are not bikers, and their walk with Christ is relevant to their connection with the community in Elma and the manner in which the Holy Spirit leads them to serve Jesus.
Set Free Elma has been affiliated with the Northwest Baptist Convention since 2001 and is currently on the Board of the Olympic Baptist Association under “Missions” status. We network or partner with several churches in Elma and many churches in other counties including Grays Harbor, Thurston, Pierce, King County and beyond. We also network with other ministries similar to ours, many of which are fruit from Set Free Elma.
